Shades of White
By Ilan Kozlowski

The cast includes 3 men ages 20s to 60s and 2 women ages 20s to 60s. Please be prepared for cold readings from the script. Resumes and photos are not necessary, but always helpful.

Set in 1990’s Tulsa, Oklahoma - during the year of the 75th anniversary of the Tulsa Race Massacre - the play is a dramatic comedy that explores the relationships between an Israeli immigrant, a former member of the Ku Klux Klan and their wives. Narrow minded Dr. Whitehill and his crone of a wife, Birdie, are set in their miserable ways until Dr. Whitehill encounters Yossi, an open-hearted musician who loves life. Uplifting, humorous and ultimately hopeful, “Shades of White” is a fast-paced seriocomedy that is relevant for our world today.

Shades of White Characters
Yossi Schwartz: A thickly accented dark skinned Israeli man in his late 20s.
Dr. Charles Whitehill: A wealthy white man in his late 60s.
Nina Schwartz: An upper middle class female Jewish New Yorker in her mid-20’s; Yossi’s wife.

Birdie Whitehill: A small, emaciated white woman with a dowager’s hump in her late 60s; wife of Dr. Whitehill
Reverend Jeremiah Browning III: A charismatic black man in his 30s.
